About the RAM Calculator

How much RAM do gamers need?

8 GB is the bare minimum for light gaming, 16 GB is the modern sweet spot for most games and background apps, and 32 GB matters for heavy multitasking, streaming while gaming, or modded games. Future titles keep pushing the baseline higher.

Why more RAM helps

When RAM runs out, Windows swaps to the much slower disk, causing stutters and long loads. Enough RAM keeps games, Discord, browsers and streaming software running smoothly at once — the classic reason for in-game hitches.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. 16 GB is the sweet spot for nearly all current games and general multitasking. Upgrade to 32 GB if you stream, run many background apps, play heavily modded games, or do video editing.

Only for light or older games with few background apps. Modern AAA titles and Chrome tabs can easily exceed 8 GB, causing stutters. 16 GB is the recommended minimum today.

Yes, especially for Ryzen CPUs. Faster RAM (3200-3600 MHz) improves minimum FPS, but capacity comes first — more RAM always beats faster RAM when you are short.
