About the Input Lag Calculator

The full latency pipeline

Input lag is the sum of every step: mouse polling and switch latency, engine + input processing, rendering (frame time = 1000/FPS), display response time, and network ping when online. Competitive players chase the lowest total.

Where the milliseconds go

At 60 FPS, a single frame takes ~16.7 ms; at 240 FPS just ~4.2 ms. Monitor response (1-5 ms), mouse polling (0.5-8 ms) and ping all stack on top. The calculator shows each contribution so you know what to optimize first.

Frequently asked questions

Total system latency under 50 ms is excellent, 50-100 ms is typical, and over 100 ms starts to feel sluggish. Professional players often target 20-40 ms total.

Raise your FPS, use a high refresh monitor with low response time, disable V-Sync (or use Reflex/G-Sync), increase mouse polling rate to 1000 Hz, and use a wired or low-latency wireless mouse.

Yes. In online games your network ping roughly adds to your total latency, though the server typically applies some prediction. A 40 ms ping plus 30 ms local latency feels like 70 ms total.
